The page also shows comparator prices. We have not confirmed them as payable month-to-month checkout quotes. An annual monthly equivalent is not a monthly subscription. Its FAQ credit-to-minute conversion does not reconcile with every displayed duration allowance; those durations are not verified usable output.
API usage uses UTF-8 bytes
Fish Audio documents pay-as-you-go API access with no subscription fee or monthly minimum. Published TTS rates are US$15 per million input UTF-8 bytes for s2.1-pro, s2-pro and s1; s2.1-pro-free is listed at US$0. API pricing and limits, checked 16 September 2026.
A byte is not necessarily a character, and neither is an audio minute. Keep the exact text, model and billed unit in a quote. A free unit rate does not resolve fair-use limits, production suitability or publication rights.
A transparent usage example
At a rate of US$15 per million bytes, a fictional 20,000-byte request calculates to US$0.30. Five separately billed generations of that input would calculate to US$1.50. These are scenarios, not observed charges or claims that five retries are typical. Checkout requirements, other services and tax need separate verification.

Resolve these questions before payment
Ask for the quote covering your exact web product or API model. Record the billing period, currency, tax, top-up requirements, included usage, expiry rules, retry charges and export format. Check which controls and voices are available on that plan. Keep unknowns visible rather than treating them as zero cost.
For a project with an uncertain schedule, compare the total commitment with the number of months you actually expect to use the tool. That is a budgeting exercise, not a recommendation to purchase either billing option.
What about commercial use?
The general terms and the free-model documentation leave a scope question for commercial publication. Our Fish Audio review explains the sources and the clarification still needed. Obtain confirmation for the actual plan, model and voice before publishing samples; a pricing label is not a complete permission record.
Can this establish the cheaper product?
